I have shipped a 2006 Golf GTI 1.8t 180ps from the states to Germany. I am living here with my wife (who is German, she is the whole reason for this immigration) and i am having some problems. My wife doesn't really understand the whole car thing. I have my car here, it is thru customs, just waiting on the TUV approval...which is where im having a problem. The car, being from the states, does not have a EG-Betriebserloubnis...so i was told i have to get a Datenblatt. I need help finding this, or knowing where to go get one. I understand this is going to be a costly adventure, but i love my car...and i am sure some of you can relate that you can not put a price tag on ones love for his car. do you got a title for your Golf?
If yes, you must go to the TÜV with your car(and the title). Then they'll make a normal inspection and after that, you will become your Datenblatt/approval.

It's also possible, that you must change your Head/Taillights or some other little things.

Here are some informations (all in german)

TÜV
Vor der Zulassungsstelle müssen Sie die technische Prüfstelle (TÜV ) aufsuchen, um dort die Einzelabnahme nach § 21 StVZO (Straßenverkehrszulassungsordnung) machen zu lassen. Vereinbaren Sie telefonisch einen Termin und erkundigen Sie sich genau, welche Papiere Sie mitbringen sollen. Seit 1991 ist in Deutschland eine Leuchtweitenregulierung (= Scheinwerfer-Höhenverstellung) vorgeschrieben. Sie ist bei US-Fahrzeugen und bei europäischen Modellen, die für den amerikanischen Markt bestimmt waren, so gut wie nie vorhanden. Ausnahmegenehmigungen sind routinemäßig für ca 60 bis 100 € erhältlich.

Datenblatt
Schwieriger ist es, festzustellen, ob für das Fahrzeug bereits ein deutsches Datenblatt vorhanden ist. Dieses ist sicher der Fall, wenn das exakt gleiche Modell schon mindestens einmal in Deutschland zugelassen wurde. Bei allen in Europa gängigen Fahrzeugen dürfte es also keine Schwierigkeiten geben.

Wenn für Ihr Fahrzeug (Baujahr vor 2000) kein Datenblatt bei den TÜVs der Umgebung vorliegt, schicken Sie eine Kopie des Title an den TÜV Augsburg,

Internationale Gutachten, Tel. 0821/5904161, Fax 0821/5904159

und fragen nach, ob das Papier dort vorhanden ist. Wenn ja, erhalten Sie es gegen eine Gebühr von ca. 75 €, wenn nein, ist es aller Voraussicht nach auch sonst nirgendwo in Deutschland erhältlich. Das amerikanische Datenblatt (data sheet) ist nicht verpflichtend für die Entscheidungen des deutschen TÜV, bei der Feststellung der Daten jedoch erfahrungsgemäß hilfreich und kostensparend.

Zumindest geringfügige Änderungen, wie der Austausch der Frontscheinwerfer, dürften bei jedem US-Fahrzeug erforderlich sein. Versuchen Sie vorab, anhand genauer Angaben zum Fahrzeugtyp, bei Ihrer Prüfstelle zu ergründen was dort erwartet wird.

Abgasgutachten
Die deutschen Abgasvorschriften stellen für die meisten US-Modelle keine unüberwindliche Hürde dar, führen aber fast immer zu einer ungünstigen steuerlichen Einstufung. Das Abgasgutachten sollte möglichst bereits vorhanden sein (siehe Datenblatt). Ist es das nicht, kann es ebenfalls beim TÜV Augsburg für ca. 130 € angefordert werden oder aber die Abgaswerte müßten neu gemessen werden. Die Kosten dafür werden nach Zeitaufwand berechnet.

Zulassungsbehörde
Um die Zulassungsbescheinigung Teil II (bisher: Fahrzeugbrief) und die Zulassungsbescheinigung Teil I (bisher: Kfz-Schein) zu bekommen, brauchen Sie folgende Papiere:

* Zoll-Unbedenklichkeitsbescheinigung
* Title oder Certificate of Origin
* Amerikanische Kennzeichen (nicht bei Neuwagen die
per Autotransporter zum amerikanischen Hafen
gebracht wurden).
* evtl. Datenblatt des Herstellers
* Originalkaufrechnung
* TÜV-Gutachten
* Versicherungsbestätigung (Doppelkarte)
* Pass oder Personalausweis

MarcoMK4: Thank you so much, no one has told me that yet. I do have the title to my car of course. The only problem the US Title does not have any technical data on it...and that is what they keep saying the need at the TÜV. We have contacted 3 different TÜVs and they all keep leading us around in circles, and not really helping us. My wife is going to call Augsburg tomorrow and see what answers we can get from them. Again thank you for all of your help!

And I am aware of the headlighs and whatnot...ill take care of it.

An other option would be, if you ask some of the GI's wich are staying here in germany with their VDubs. Many of them are in the VWVortex Froums.

A good tip- Apply to James aka 'Notabora2' in the Vortex, he is staying with his Jetta MK4 since a long time here in germany, i'm sure that he knows many important things

I was also stationed here with my 2001 GTI VR6...however when you are stationed here with the army you never have to go to a TUV, you only have to get the vehicle registered thru the Army at the army base. It is much easier. You do not need to change anything on the car to conform to German laws, only the tint on front windows i think. Either way, when you ship a car here while in the army, you dont need a datenblatt or anything of the sort. So they cant help me. But thanks anyway!

the tüv station in augsburg is very "tradional" the guys working there are very smart guys. if you don´t get the legal in augsburg, it´s nearly impossible.
