| ![]() Can you tell me what I have to take from the old cluster to the other one.. Because I used to take my car to somebody here to change the cluster with 1j0 920 842A,but not successful..so he told me to bring the same number on old cluster..

If you upload your current clusters' eeprom dump here, we can help you with this. What problem do you have? Are you sure, that a cluster swap will help? And why are you not trying to repair the original cluster? Your original cluster has the large MFA / FIS display in the middle. This type of cluster is relatively rare in golf MK4. The chance to find one of these on the scrapyard is small. If you don't use the stock radio / navigation in your car, you don't need this large display. This means you could also 'downgrade' to a cluster with a small MFA display like: - 1J0920825A - 1J5920825A - 1J0920826A - 1J5920826A And if you are fine with a smaller rev scale, you could also use one of the following 1.4l 16V clusters: - 1J0920825 - 1J0920826 - 1J5920826 And if you can live with a miles scale on your speedometer, you've even more options for a cluster swap. You will need to transfer the immo data and maybe mileage across. This needs to be done on a PC ideally, not just by moving over the eeprom (if it’s an exact match to the old down to the manufacturer and version number you might get away with it). I’d try to find a cluster with the same generation immobiliser and fuel type, the rest can be corrected. |

He’s apparently replaced the display only. Was it soldered in place or connected with a conductive rubber part? Would have been easier to swap the cluster completely and match immobiliser and transfer the vehicle mileage. |

1J0920842A as well as 1J0920845A are VDO clusters with displays soldered to the pcb. @Karim buy a new display and find someone who is able to handle a soldering iron. Removing an old display from another cluster is as dumb as swapping your cluster with another old cluster. p.s.: 1J0920842A and 1J0920845A are not compatible. | |
